Researchers at Manchester and Oxford Universities have discovered a protein which may ease the pain for millions of people who suffer from bone disease. A protein molecule that can protect the body against inflammation as well as stop the erosion of bone has been found to exist naturally.

The University researchers are excited with their new discovery and believe that they may be able to develop newer treatments for diseases such as osteoporosis. The protein molecule, called TSG-6, is naturally produced in the inflamed tissue of patients suffering from conditions such as asthma and arthritis.

The ongoing study is to be published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry as it represents an exciting advance in the understanding of tissue regeneration and repair. The TSG-6 molecule may be able to put a stop to bone erosion and could help many sufferers in the world.
